Whānau Friendly Hikoi at HIkaroroa

Join us for a guided walk through the DCC Scenic Reserve at Hikaroroa / Mt Watkin. This is a great opportunity to explore one of the last stands of old-growth forest in the area, significant for its kowhai-broadleaf and totara-matai forests.

Led by Jamie Hickling, Project Coordinator for the Hikaroroa / Mt Watkin Conservation Group and Maia Chambers (Mammalian Corrections Unit Operations Manager), the walk will highlight the unique ecological values of Hikaroroa, the biodiversity we’re working to protect, and the next steps for the conservation project.

If you are joining us, please bring: sturdy footwear, walking clothing, water, a packed lunch, curiosity, and general enthusiasm for being out in the bush!

The walk will be on an old vehicle track going through the bush. The track can be moderately inclined and slippery in places, but is suitable for kids.
